PALETTE:
B Black MG Mystic Green SO Sunset Orange T Tafty
MIXTURES:
BRUSHES:
#3 and #5 round
PREPARATION:
On Wood - sand and basecoat
as needed
Inside of the tray, basecoat 2-3 coats AB. The back and inside rim requires 2coats with PS. Measure 1,5 inch
to the inside. Paint this measured border with 2 coats of HB. Apply one coat of oil based polyurethane varnish
and let it dry over night for antiquing.
ANTIQUING:
Use mix #1 for antiquing, thin paint with water ( little thicker as ink). Apply the paint with a sponge brush,
heavy in the corners (cover the whole tray ) immediately wipe off the paint with a soft rag, leave corners darker.
When dry, pull lines with brush #3. Outline with B Inside of the black line pull thin strokes with W.
To achieve continuing lines add water to the paint. To pull line, pick up some paint, with gentle pressure pull
brush along a raised ruler. For the border pattern take brush #3 and W, use the tip of the brush to make scrolls.
Begin painting the design with carnations, than leaves, tulips, vase and roses.
CARNATION:
Basecoat the petals with SO and mix #4. When dry, make short overstrokes with the opposite color
LEAVES and VASE:
Basecoat with MG. Start from the left/right and work your way up to the middle. Outline each leave with mix #2.
For the vase pattern and the outline use #3 and T.
TULIP: Basecoat with T. Apply overstrokes while wet with SO
ROSE:
2 basecoats of T. When the second basecoat is applied, add brown (mix#3) for the center, from the top- start from
the outside pulling fat comma strokes with SO inward. Keep base wet- the overstroke will blend into the base.
FINISHING:
Apply
two thin coats of oil based polyurethane varnish.
